Rules of Competitions for the Rhondda Camera Club.

 

 

 

General Rules

The Rhondda Camera Club shall hold the following competitions in the Club Year 2009-2010. These competitions will be open to members of the Rhondda Camera Club only.

 

 A Small Print Competition.

A Compact Camera Images Competition

Four Aggregate Competitions.

 A Three on a Theme Competition

A Selected Theme Competition

Club Photographer of the Year Competition

An Annual Competition.

 

 

For the above competitions, all prints (monochrome or colour) and projected images shall be judged and the points awarded by an independent judge listed by the Welsh Photographic Federation or other suitable person. The Club’s Competition Secretary shall be responsible for appointing the judges.

 

 

The dates of every Competition and, whenever possible the appointed Judge will be published in a programme of events to be issued to each member at the start of the Club Year (Sept 2009) or upon joining the Club. The information will also be posted on the Club website www.rhonddacameraclub.org.uk

 

All entries must be submitted to the Competition Secretary at least two weeks before the date of the Competition, or by the dates stated in the Club programme. No entries will be accepted or deemed eligible if submitted after that date. Only the Competition Secretary or his representative may submit entries to the judge.

 

Entries should be titled, and the name of the member clearly marked on each entry, with exception of entries for the aggregate competitions, when the member's club number should be used.

 

Prints may be any size up to a maximum of 20” x 16”. Mounts are to be no greater than 20" x 16". Prints for the Small Print competition may be up to a maximum of 7.5" x 5" and must be mounted. The mounted print should not exceed 10" x 8". Masking tape should not be used on any mounts. If it is, the tape may be removed and replaced with sellotape.

Projected images should be submitted on a CD, DVD or storage device and saved at a resolution of 96 with the longest side measuring 1024 px x 768. Files must be JPEG’s.

 

All entries may be trade processed.

 

All entries to the print competitions should be accompanied by a disc or storage device recording the images for the purpose of projecting them during the Competition, and retaining a copy for the purpose of selection in external competitions. A failure to submit a digital copy of a print will not render it ineligible, but the Competition Secretary will photograph the print using ambient light, and retain the photographed copy.

 

The rules will be formally adopted by the Rhondda Camera Club at the AGM on May 26th 2009. The Club Chairman will acknowledge their acceptance by signing two copies, one to be retained by the Chairman, and one to be retained by the Club Secretary. In the event of any dispute, this version of the rules will be deemed to be correct version.

 

 

Small Print Competition.

 

This competition should be held early in the club year.

 

There will be no set subject.

 

Entries may be monochrome or colour, with a maximum size of 7.5" x 5" and mounted. Mounts should not exceed 10" x 8".

 

Up to three small prints may be entered by each member.

 

The outright winner will be the entry awarded the highest points on merit by the judge on the night.

 

Enlargements of these entries are eligible for use in all other club competitions.

Compact Camera Images Competition.

 

This competition will be run on the same evening as the Small Print Competition

 

There will be no set subject.

 

Entries to be submitted on disc or storage device, and the exif information must clearly show that the image was taken using a compact (non interchangeable lens) camera.

 

Entries may be in colour or monochrome.

 

Up to three images may be entered by each member.

 

The outright winner will be the entry awarded the highest points on merit by the judge on the night.

 

 These entries are eligible for use in all other club competitions.

Aggregate Competitions.

 

All Four Aggregate competitions will be open with no set subject

 

A maximum of three prints and/or projected images may be entered for each competition.

 

The score for each print or projected image will be the number of points awarded by the judge on the competition night.

 

Points awarded in each of the four competitions will be totaled in respect of each member. The member with the highest number of points for prints at the end of all four competitions will win the Print Aggregate Competition. Similarly with the Projected Image Aggregate Competition.

 

Only scores achieved in these four competitions will count towards the annual aggregate total

 

No image entered as a print will be allowed to be entered into another Appraisal Competition as a projected image or vice versa. No image entered as a colour image will be allowed to be re entered as a monochrome image, or vice versa. If any image is entered in such a way, all points awarded after its first entry into a competition will be declared null and void.

 

Entries into the Appraisal Competition may be entered into any subsequent (non appraisal) Competitions

 

All prints and projected images entered in any of the Aggregate competitions will not be eligible for entry in any further Aggregate competitions, but may be entered in any other Club Competitions.

Three on a Theme Competition

 

Each entry will comprise of three images on a related theme.

 

The entry will comprise of prints only.

 

The theme will be selected by the photographer and stated on the back of each image.

 

Individual images may be titled with their own title, and must be indicated as print 1, 2, and 3 to indicate the preferred way they are to be displayed.

 

Any of the images used for this competition may have been used in previous Club Competitions.

 

Entries to this Competition may be entered in subsequent competitions.

Selected Theme Competition

 

The theme for this Competition will be selected by the Club Committee and announced at the start of the Club Year in September.

 

Up to three prints and/or 3 projected images may be submitted by each member.

 

Work must not have been entered in previous Club competitions, but may be submitted in subsequent competitions.

 

Scores will NOT be counted towards the Annual Appraisal totals

Club Photographer of the Year Competition

 

Images with the 3 highest scores in each of the qualifying competitions will be eligible for entry in this Competition

 

There will be a print competition and a projected images competition

 

Qualifying competitions are:

The Four Appraisal Competitions

The Selected Theme Competition

 

The Competition Secretary will notify members whose prints are eligible 21 days before the date of the competition. It is the responsibility of the member to produce the work within the next 7 days.

 

Projected Images entries will be available from the entries submitted in the qualifying Competitions.

 

The judge will be asked to score all the entries in the usual way, and nominate one image to be the best in the entire competition. The author of this image will be awarded the title Club Photographer of the Year.

 

ALL entries in this Competition will not be eligible for entry into the Annual Competition

Annual Competition.

 

This will be the last competition of the club year.

 

All members are entitled to enter this competition.

 

There will be a print competition and a projected images competition.

 

Images should be either new work and/or work entered in any other club competition EXCEPT

Previous Annual Competitions

The Club Photographer of the Year Competition 

 

The winning entries will be those prints and projected images awarded the highest points on merit by the judge. The judge will be requested to name a single winner in each section

 

 

 

Selection of work for all EXTERNAL Competitions.

 

 

Selection of work for all external competitions will be made by a Selection Committee. The committee shall comprise of at least four Club members, including the winner of the Print and Projected Images Appraisal Competition (if it is their wish to accept nomination), and at least two other members who will have been chosen by the Club Committee. The Competition Secretary will act as coordinator who shall not have selection powers except for a casting vote when the committee is deadlocked. The coordinator shall be responsible for procuring photographs from club members for selection, presenting the final selections for the whole of the club to see, and returning the work to the members after selection.
